NSW Rural Fire Service have a complex ecosystem of applications and infrastructure. They operate as one of the most widely dispersed organisations in Australia and have a user base that is large, fluid and widely dispersed. Many of their core systems run in isolation with a mix of modern cloud based systems running alongside ancient legacy systems. To compound issues, documentation on core systems is incomplete or missing.
Following the devastating 2019 bush fires, NSW Rural Fire Service focussed on operational efficiencies to allow them to better respond to the ever increasing danger of future fires.
Core to this focus was integration of core systems which were to be brought into an AWS Cloud environment.
The Services Company were engaged to integrate core systems. We provided a core project team of 5. The project has been delivered utilising an Agile, sprint based approach
.Net, C#, SAP, AWS, NodeJS, GIS,
The Services Company were engaged to program manage the high profile SSKO program of work which aims to provide NSW SES’s team with innovative technology and process solutions to ensure that teams are kept safe whilst still remaining operational. This included developing a Mobile Incident Command Centre (MICC), Cell On Wheels Generation (COW) and Hazards and Warning Pilot.
The scope of the project was to deliver a state wide program of work, one of the biggest undertaken by NSW SES. The scope covered mobile response units, remote units, volunteer engagement and hazard warning systems.
NSW Premiere Gladys Berejiklian meets the NSW SES and TSC team responsible for SSKO
The program was delivered during one of the most severe storm seasons NSW has seen for many years. This meant that NSW SES stakeholders were operational and responding to emergencies significantly more than expected. This made liaison with the business very challenging.
SSKO was recognised with the 2021 SafeWork Award for excellence in work health and safety. The Stay Safe Keep Operational (SSKO) Program developed the new Mobile Incident Command Centre (MICC) and Cell on Wheels Generation 2(COW) to address these challenges and to ensure the safety of NSW volunteers, our emergency service partners and the communities we serve. The launch of the COW project was personally visited by the NSW Premiere.

The Services Company were engaged to program manage the build of a source to contract procurement system used by NSW Fire Service for procurement of fire equipment, assets and vehicles. The system is used by head office and regional fire units and integrates with numerous core systems (both new and legacy) and integrates with backend systems of other, related, emergency services organisations including NSW Fire and Rescue and NSW SES.
The scope of the project was to design a solution, build the solution, integrate with all linked legacy systems within NSW RFS and related entities, test the solution and deliver comprehensive training and documentation.
The Services Company provided program management, solution architecture and project management services to the project as well as a small project team of technical specialists. We were able to bring together the SMEs within the NSW RFS and those within the organisations we were integrating systems with and were able to deliver a world class procurement system.

The Technology Asset Refresh Programme (TARP) replaces end of life infrastructure within NSW Police.
The programme consisted of two components
We provided server engineering services to assess, design, build, test and migrate physical and virtual servicers to HCI.
We provided project management services to manage the resources, project schedule, procurement, administration, financial reporting, risk and issue management and deliverables.

The assignment spanned numerous projects and the scope include BAU testing services as well as creation of the automation testing framework.
NSW RFS have a diverse range of technologies and projects tend to involve a disparate and widely dispersed stakeholder team. Systems often integrate with related Government departments and usually utilise a combination of cutting edge, cloud based technologies integrated with legacy systems.
We were able to successfully deliver an automation testing framework and successfully provided testing services across multiple small and large projects over a 3 year period
We were engaged by a large NSW Government Department to provide a project management resource for their Salesforce migration project. Accountabilities included:
A critical NSW Government Department required us to deliver a project team to digitise paper forms for high volume applications as well as upgrade some of their backend processing systems. The project also involved integrating with Service NSW. The project was managed using the Agile methodology and utilised the .Net development stack
A large Australian University engaged us to assist in a number of projects within a large program of infrastructure based work they were undertaking. We provided small project teams to manage the following projects.
NSW Police had a legacy, mainframe based firearm registry system that utilised paper forms and outdated technology. The Services Company were engaged to provide a project team to deliver a .Net based solution that backed into NSW Police's TRIM records management system. In addition, the backend system would be upgraded and tested.
.Net, C#, TRIM, REST / JSON API Development, Image conversion, utilising Agile methodology
The project covered several phases and was aimed to deliver:
The project team consisted of a Project Manager/Business Analyst, a TRIM Functional Consultant, .Net Developers and Testers.
The technology was dated (VB6) but the project team were required to understand it in order to rewrite in C#.
Many processes would continue to utilise paper forms as well as online forms so the solution needed to be tested using both paper and online scenarios.
The firearms staff work in regional NSW so were only accessible via video call. This made understanding their challenges difficult and made change management (as the processes had been in place for a long time) quite challenging.
The project was delivered on time and within budget.
